This workshop series is a space for exploration of the poetic sphere of the body and voice.

We are used to expressing our experiences through language, analyzing them, describing them, and putting them into “the known”: I can name it, and thus “I know it”…

But experiential knowing goes beyond words, and it will always remain so…

Sometimes language connects us to experience, and other times it does the opposite: it locks living experience into the box of language and reduces that balance between the known and the unknown—which every living experience contains—to a known and describable “thing.”

Voice and movement offer us another possibility: they allow us to establish a direct relationship with an experience without interpreting it. They offer us the possibility of entering a space where we can simply be with what is—with what arises in the realm of feelings and perception—without drawing conclusions or limiting the experience to a “definitive meaning.”

Voice and movement can allow us to enter in touch with an unnamable substance of life that weaves its own poetry, connecting memory and imagination, connecting need, desire and sound.

Playing with sound allows us to enter a nonverbal and nonanalytical way of communicating with others and with ourselves.

In the POETIC Body-Voice series we will be touching this poetic language of the voice and movement.

Your body is steeped in its own visceral and imaginative poetry.

The experiences unfolding in your body talk in their own poetic language: language of sensation, language of imagery.

We will give it a voice.

ATTENTION

PRESENCE

MOVEMENT

VOICE

During the sessions we will be:

  • meeting the somatic experiences with curiosity and unfolding those experiences into a poetic language of movement and sound

  • tracing your poetic song though vocal and sonic improvisations.

  • practicing non-verbal communication through sound

“You are following pulsions, tracing the perceived into the unknown—with movement, with attention, with voice.

Your voice arises as a consequence of movement,
of movement that touches inner spaces and the experiences bubbling up in the body.
You hold them in a gentle embrace of attention and let them sound.

Imagery and sounds evoke memory.
Memories come alive with sounds.

Tasting the sound and sonority of phonemes, your voice lets its sounds bubble into a melody.
You know what it means but cannot fully explain it.
There is no need.
You understand through sound.
You are playing with the Emergent, steeped in the poetry of the voice and the body. “

NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY.
