KATIE’S TALES

A Woman’s Desire In The Whirlwind Of History

Katie’s Tales interlaces song, poetry, evocative physicality, and striking stage imagery, to create the dream traces of one woman's encounter with love, war, ancestral memory, and a future still-to-come.

A young woman awaits her lover. In the shade of a cherry orchard thickening with the memories and unfulfilled desires of many generations, her own desire is taken up into the maddening whirlwinds of history.
Katie's life unfolds during savage times. Her beloved had to leave after the last catastrophe, but he promised to return. Together with a couple of foreign servants, Katie lives protected in her garden, under the shade of her cherry trees, silent witnesses of her life and of History. Every day she receives visitors, every moment could bring the return of the one who left, and Katy keeps herself ready.
Standing at the crossroads of past and future, armed with her desire, she weaves moving evocations of imbricated pasts and deeply wished-for futures.

"How can such a pure feeling emerge from an actor's body?"

— Franco Acquaviva, Sipario.it

“Fascinating dialogue with her Foremothers and – at the same time – her kinswomen.”

— Prof. Dariusz Kosiński, Jagiellonian University, Poland

FIESTA CANTADA

Experiencia comunitaria musical

A participatory event by LosRiosDelCanto: Agnieszka Kazimierska & Catalina del Barrio, in collaboration with Fernando Castillo Velez on percussion.

With Fiesta Cantada we invite you to immerse yourself in the magic collective singing, an orally transmitted ancient practice that has accompanied humanity since its beginnings.

During this participatory event we enter into a flow of play, song, sounds and celebration. We seek the encounter among all our human layers that want to vibrate together.

Percussion accompanies us to connect with our most intuitive and wildest parts, while poetry and sung melodies open up space in the heart for joyful appreciation.
We guide the gathering through collective songs, vocal improvisations and movement, including the people who are present.
We sing original compositions and ancestral songs from different traditions. These songs are a great tool to connect among human beings through the poetic and corporal language of the voice that crosses borders. Many of the songs have a call and response structure, and are easy to learn in the moment.
This is a space of co-creation to celebrate and connect with your genuine expressiveness. You decide when to rest and how much to get involved in each moment. You can participate by singing, dancing or simply assisting with your presence.
The main desire of the meeting is to nourish ourselves through the treasures that the living arts give us: song, word, dance and movement, interaction and connection.
No previous experience of any kind is necessary.
Join us for the Fiesta Cantada!
